Social media plays a major role in shaping our mind towards our food habits and diet.
When we constantly see videos and posts of social media influencers, trainers, coaches, fitness freaks etc about what they eat to get fit, we feel guilty about yourselves and what we eat. This is because they often post pictures or videos of food stuffs like fancy smoothies & shakes, low calorie soups & salad, black coffee, green tea and exotic vegetables & fruits like kiwi, broccoli, avocado etc.
They shape our mind in a way that we think for getting healthy and to achieve a better physique we need to eat those low calorie and exotic food stuff and ditch our traditional Indian meals. We start feeling scared and guilty of our local and cultural foods.
Every time we eat a bowl of salad, fruits, oats etc we think that we are on right track of getting healthier and fitter. On the other hand we are scared to have even one more bite or spoonful of our Indian meals like parantha, rice, pakora, kheer, halwa etc. And if we ate even a little extra we feel guilty and our self esteem goes down and we think of exercising even more to burn off those calories because we consider them as fattening.
Now its time to be smart and understand the difference between which we assume to be healthy and foods which are actually. So include fresh, seasonal and local foods in your diet and those exotic ones. If you live in India then eat banana, cheeku, rice, parantha, dosa, brinjal, amaranth leaves etc as they are grown and cultivated in our soil and not those exotic kiwis and broccoli. To get healthy, fit and strong we need to eat right and not less.
Food is nourishment and not a punishment.
We need to eliminate the guilt and fear of eating.
